Installing Bathroom Fan Heaters

If you’ve been getting out of cold corner baths or walking into a cold bathroom, you can easily do away with your problems by installing a new bathroom fan heater. This installation process is incredibly easy if you already have an existing fan wired in your bathroom. Follow the simple steps below to begin enjoying a new heated bathroom.

Step 1) Shut Off The Power To The Bathroom Area, Double Check

The most important step of all is to kill the power that is going into your bathroom to ensure you will avoid being shocked while you’re installing the new heater. Once you have shut the power off at the circuit breaker box, you want to double check by turning on the switches in the bathroom. If lights turn on, or the existing fan turns on, you must go back to the breaker box and attempt to find the correct circuit before you can proceed forward.

Step 2) Begin Removing The Existing Light Installation

Once you have verified that the power has been successfully shut off to the bathroom area, you will need to begin removing the existing fan installation. You are usually able to apply downward force to the existing fan to have it come loose from its mounting bracket. If it does not come loose, try removing the trim piece around the fan to expose any screws that may be underneath. If you look at the fan and see screws on the outside of the trim, you may need to simply remove those and the fan will come free from the bracket.

Step 3) Make Sure The Existing Wiring Matches The Wires On The New Fan Heater

Look at the wires coming out from your ceiling. They should be color coded to the same color wires that are included with your new bathroom fan heater. If they are not, you may need to contact an electrical contractor to help you finish the installation. However, as long as the wires are color coded in the same manner, you can begin attaching the wires on the new fan heater to the wires coming out of your ceiling from the old bathroom fan.

Step 4) Turn The Power Back On And Test The Installation For Errors

After you’ve wired the new fan heater, and attached it back into the mounting bracket in the ceiling, you can then turn the power back on to the bathroom. If there are any problems, you want to go over the wiring layout again and verify that it is secured properly. If you need to, contact an electrician to help you avoid creating any situations where you could potentially start a fire from malfunctioning wiring.
